How A Slight Change Could Alter The Pattern Of Your Life
Welcome to my site and thank you for taking the time out of your busy day to read my first blog post!
As mentioned on the homepage, the goal of my blog is to display how beautiful a "slight change" in your life could be!
My "slight change" began October 2015 when I went on a family vacation to Europe. We went to England, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland and France for two weeks. The itinerary was intense, but made for an amazing experience! When I returned home and went back to my daily routine, I literally couldn't stop thinking about my trip! I longed to go back to Europe and immerse myself in more arts and culture, but I realistically knew that it wouldn't be possible because I only get three weeks of vacation. I then contemplated quitting my job to travel the world as I've often read about on other travel blogs. While I'd love to quit my job to travel the world, making such a drastic change when I have bills to pay just doesn't make financial sense. How do I find a happy medium?
I found a happy medium when I remembered one of my favorite quotes by Sharon Salzberg which says "life is like an ever-shifting kaleidoscope - a slight change, and all patterns alter." It was like a light bulb turned on! I started to focus on what I could do instead of what I couldn't. While I couldn't duplicate the experience I had in 2015 or quit my job to travel the world, I could make a "slight change" in the way I viewed traveling to experience something similarly beautiful! I needed to plan for quality time instead of quantity time in Europe.
Since October 2015, I've made a series of slight changes in my life to achieve this goal. Beginning November 2015, I went back to school to become a certified TEFL teacher specializing in teaching Business English. I accomplished this all while still working full-time. I then started researching places in Europe where I could go to volunteer as a TEFL teacher during my next vacation. Volunteering to teach English as a foreign language would allow me to spend quality time immersing myself in arts and culture without having to make the drastic change of quitting my full-time job. It's a win-win situation, but where in Europe should I go?
I narrowed down my choice through the go-to black travel site - Travel Noire, and its #TNdistrict, where I discovered Las Morenas De España who are all about "redefining the Black experience in Spain." I loved what I was reading and instantly knew that I have to go to Spain!
That's all for now! Watch this space for more blog posts about my upcoming trip to Spain! Can you guess where in Spain I'm going?
